Behind the camera.
I began photography as a hobby and it has since become the kind of work I most want to be doing. This has
developed from weekend activities and personal projects for clients in Adelaide into Sam's Creativity.
It all started with buildings. The way a room differs during the day, the reason that one photograph of a
house makes you want to go through the front door while another causes you to swipe past it. Property and
architecture remain at the heart of my photography - this is because of my background in civil engineering
and construction management, which gives me an understanding of what a builder, an architect or an agent
actually needs to see.
A photo of a space should convey what it is like to stand in it.
In practice this involves getting there early in order to make the best use of the natural light, adjusting
the vertical lines so that the rooms appear correctly, and editing in a light manner - without adding fake
skies or stretching the ceilings in an attempt to make a room seem larger than it actually is - so that the
files are ready for use on the web and for printing, typically within two to three days of the photography
session.
